1. What am I weighing? Remember - different applications have different requirements.
Fish or Poultry
Spices
Chemicals
Counting Inventory
Quality Control
2. Where and in what kind of environment am I working in?
3. What is the heaviest thing you will weigh?
4. What readability (graduation or increments) are you looking for?
5. Do you need a “legal for trade” scale? i.e. will you use the scale to establish the sale price of a transaction? If the answer is yes, then it must be legal for trade.
Weighing spices will require a small, more precise scale.(i.e. larger count, smaller increments).
Counting inventory in a dark warehouse might require a rechargeable or regular battery-powered counting scale with LED display or LCD with a back light.
Keep in mind that all things being equal, as the capacity increases so will the graduation.
